Thanks, Hannah Position summary Responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a PDP-10 and collection of PDP-8 and PDP-11 computers. Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains vintage computer systems, including but not limited to PDP-10, PDP-8 and PDP-11 computers and related systems in conjunction with other Technology teams. Duties include software installation, configuration, maintenance, procurement of parts, and certification/performance testing of the various computer systems. When required and on occasion, responsibilities include assisting on special projects. Also provides first level support and troubleshooting for computer systems at the facility to ensure optimum performance for the clients. Essential duties and responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned) · Performs Operator tasks on DEC computers and software emulators, such as account management, backups, software installations and system generation. · Loads and maintains software on systems such as TOPS-10, TOPS-20, DEC's Layered Products, OS/8, RSTS and RSX. · Performs regular preventive maintenance and basic repair on PDP computer systems. · Exercises systems and peripherals on regular basis and troubleshoots problems that occur. · Configures, administers, modifies and supports software emulators and virtual systems. · Configures serial ports for remote communications and access to PDP collection. · Makes backup copies of old media. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. · 5-7 years operations experience with PDP-10 and PDP-8, with emphasis on PDP-10. · 5 years experience as a DEC Field Engineer working on PDP-10s and peripherals, experience in preventative maintenance on other DEC PDP computers. · Repair and diagnostic experience on DEC PDP-10 and PDP-8. · Must have familiarity with TOPS-10. · Must have familiarity with virtual software machines. · Some programming experience in any of the assemblers, batch and programming languages used by PDP computers. · Some experience with PDP-11. · Desired experience with DEC-20 hardware and TOPS-20. · Desired experience in serial and network communications. · Acts as liaison between the clients and members of the Technology department, as directed by management. Clients may include top-level corporate executives. · Participates in a 24-hour on-call support program utilizing documented escalation procedures and appropriate staffing.
